The SouthH2 Corridor and the hydrogen infrastructure – building connections to resist a new business as usual
The EU has included the SouthH2Corridor in the list of Projects of Common and Mutual Interest. This is planned to be a 3300 km long hydrogen pipeline connecting North Africa (mostly Tunisia and Algeria) and Germany, passing through Italy and Austria. The workshop will begin with an introduction into hydrogen as an energy source, trying to explain how it works, the distinction between the different kinds of hydrogen available, and its environmental and social costs. Moreover, we will talk about the SouthH2Corridor, devoting special attention to its Austrian section. Thereby, we want to highlight the economical and political interests that motivate its construction, as well as the colonial and extractivist relations that it might reinforce. Finally, we will invite the audience to share and discuss ideas on how to critically engage with the project, with the hope of establishing a cross-border dialogue between different activist groups working on this or similar topics. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ You can register here: https://survey.klimacamp.at/index.php/683769?lang=en
