Die Produktivkräfte lassen es heute zu, Produktionsverhältnisse ohne Tierleid zu verwirklichen. Es gibt keinen vernünftigen Grund, dies nicht zu tun. Die Tatsache, dass das technologische Potential des entfalteten Kapitalismus historischen Fortschritt möglich macht, darf allerdings nicht darüber hinwegtäuschen, dass es auch umfassende Zerstörungen zulässt: Es birgt die Möglichkeit zur Befreiung und zugleich zur völligen Verdinglichung, Missachtung und Vernichtung des Lebens. Sollen die modernen Produktivkräfte Mittel zur Entfaltung von Fortschritt und Glück werden, müssen sich jene zusammenschließen, die daran ein gemeinsames Interesse haben. Wenn man Marxist*in ist, wenn man Antikapitalist*in ist, dann muss man diesen solidarischen Impuls zum Treibstoff seines Lebens machen, die objektive Stellung der Tiere und der Natur im kapitalistischen Produktionsprozess erkennen, sowie die Tatsache, dass sie auch zu jenen geknechteten Wesen gehören, auf deren Rücken die herrschende Klasse ihren Reichtum anhäuft. Der Klassenkampf zur Befreiung der Tiere und der Natur ist der Kampf zur Befreiung der Ausgebeuteten.

Marxism and animal liberation
Today, the productive forces make it possible to realize production relations without animal suffering. There is no reasonable reason not to do so. However, the fact that the technological potential of unfolded capitalism makes historical progress possible must not obscure the fact that it also allows for extensive destruction: It holds the possibility for liberation and at the same time for complete reification, disregard and destruction of life. If modern productive forces are to become a means for the development of progress and happiness, those who have a common interest in this must unite. If you are Marxist, if you are anti-capitalist, then you must make this solidarity impulse the fuel of your life, recognize the objective position of animals and nature in the capitalist production process, and the fact that they also belong to those enslaved beings on whose backs the ruling class accumulates its wealth. The class struggle for the liberation of animals and nature is the struggle for the liberation of the exploited.
