Studies on the authoritarian car-acter – On the connection between car love and right-wing extremism
The car is not just a modern artifact or a mere means of transport, but has a significant impact on its surroundings. Villages, landscapes, cities - the car has adapted the world to its needs. Once idyllic villages are now concrete ruins. Once living deer are now dead. Once sensible people are now stuck in traffic jams. But the car not only shapes landscapes and cities, it also shapes its supposed owners - people. Their psyche, their behavior, their needs. In this workshop we will explore some fundamental questions about the social significance of the car. Among other things: - What psychological needs are satisfied by the car? / Why does society follow the car and not the other way around? / Why does (driving) a car promote conservative thinking? / What does meaningful political communication with drivers look like? / How are car love and toxic masculinity related? Why are SUVs so popular? / Is it a coincidence that the 20th century carmaker, Henry Ford, was an anti-Semitic Nazi sympathizer? / Is it a coincidence that the 21st century carmaker, Elon Musk, is an anti-Semitic neo-Nazi sympathizer? ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Click here to register: https://survey.klimacamp.at/index.php/683769?lang=de-informal
