Barriers at the Camp – Klimacamp

Barriers at the Camp

  • There will be no sign language interpreters at the camp.
  • Workshops can be held in either English or German, depending on need – this will be clarified at the start of each workshop. With the help of the workshop facilitators, a solution such as whispered translation can be found if necessary. Unfortunately, there are no official translations into other languages, but spontaneous translation might be possible. Feel free to reach out if you can support with translation into other languages.
  • Many people will be at the camp. We can’t estimate the exact number, but we expect around 100 people at a time.
  • On party nights (Monday, Thursday and Saturday), there will be loud music form 7 PM onwards. Please bring ear protection if you are sensitive to loud noises.
  • Unfortunately, the site is not fully accessible. There is one low-barrier toilet and one low-barrier workshop tent. In addition, support person shifts will be staffed (these individuals do not have special/official training). They can be contacted by phone (number available at the info point).
  • The toilets are accessible via a paved surface, but it is somewhat uneven. The toilets are divided into stalls and are relatively narrow.
  • The toilets are not gendered.
  • There are no handrails on the stairs – we are still trying to change this.
  • The drinking water tap is relatively high up (difficult to reach for wheelchair users or people of short stature).
  • The food distribution area is accessible via a gravel path with a slight incline.
  • The workshop tents and events in the pit area are unfortunately not low-barrier – the path into the pit is very steep.
  • Drinkable water and vegan food are available at the camp.
  • There is an awareness concept in place for the entire week. Awareness team members will be on site, recognizable by yellow vests and approachable. There is also an awareness phone number: +43 677 61498862 staffed 27/7.
  • In the evening, there are some light sources at the camp – pathways are not lit and visibility is poor. Please bring your own lights – for example, a headlamp.
  • There will be children’s program during the workshop slots — We encourage people in caregiving responsibility to join the camp. The play area will be “open” at all times.
  • There are clearly marked areas where drug use is not permitted.
  • Free entry!
