Workshop submission EXTENDED until: 27.03.2022 Climate camps are built on the four pillars: education, networking, living alternatives, and direct action. Climate camps are at the heart of the climate justice movement. They are a gathering place for diverse political and social groups fighting for environmental sustainability and social justice to network and educate one another. They’re also a space where alternatives to today’s exploitative social structures may be tested, and our opposition can be amplified via direct action and civil disobedience. The climate justice movement seeks to ensure a good life for all in a world with finite resources. To achieve this, we strive for radical systemic change.

If the restrictions for the pandemic are relaxed, the Climate Camp will take place from May 22 to 29, 2022, tentatively, at the Lobau Camp. We are looking for enthusiastic people who are willing to contribute their skills and knowledge around the management of the multiple crises. We are looking for activist experiences as well as craft, creative, or theoretical know-how. In addition, anything else that encourages shared learning processes to get closer to the goal of a good life for all! We are looking for workshops, panel discussions, and lectures that will engage adults and/or children. The Climate Camp also offers the opportunity to get involved creatively, for example through theater and music performances, guided meditations and other artistic contributions. We are also happy to receive support in childcare.

The overexploitation of natural resources has global, escalating consequences. For decades, various natural scientists have been compiling frightening data on the effects of the climate crisis. So why haven’t the necessary steps been taken to reach the 1.5 degree target? More and more people are realizing: this is mainly due to political and social reasons.

In the search for answers, we come up against colonial conditions that have been structurally perpetuated for centuries. The ecological crisis is intertwined with social, economic and political crises. At the same time, these circumstances make us aware of the close relations between different actors and collectives around the globe. Our objectives are interconnected and together we can bring about profound change. We strive toward a sustainable future in which we treat each other with greater respect and love, allowing everyone to flourish freely.

Therefore, we aim to take a multidisciplinary approach on the crisis. As the camp will extend itself upon the current Lobau Camp, we will especially welcome contributions related to this struggle. Thus, we encourage all perspectives on the issues of climate crisis, ecology, and sustainable living, as well as how intersectionality may affect these issues. In particular, we aspire to provide a space where those who are underrepresented in mainstream discourse may express themselves and share their perspectives. Therefore, we invite FLINTA* people, people with refugee and migration backgrounds, and those who have faced racism to participate in shaping the climate camp.

When curating the climate camp, we aim for the following goals and expectations:

If you are interested or have any questions, please contact us by email at programm@klimacamp.at.

If you submit a contribution, please allow us a few weeks after the closing of the survey to concretely decide whether or not we will accept your workshop into the camp. Within a few weeks, we will contact you with the status of your workshop.

If you already have concrete ideas, please fill the following form.

https://survey.klimacamp.at/index.php/699338?lang=en

Call for Workshops!
